meet amanda!
Your go-to dog behaviorist and pet medium
Here we eduCAte the human behind the dog and believe knowledge should be shared.
We see the relationship between dogs and their humans as a team mentality. Your dog’s happiness depends on YOU because you’re ultimately the one who decides what they do and what they need: their play outings, food schedule and type, mental stimulation (yep, your pup also needs that), rest and rejuvenation, etc.
Your dog observes and knows you extremely well, constantly trying to communicate with you. Buuuuut, on the flip side, we aren’t as lucky. We don’t have the same knowledge about dogs. So the one who needs help to understand, build confidence, and guide is actually the human!
our approach
The Dog Intuitive was born out of a desire to help all pet owners better understand their pets with the belief that all pets are good and all new beginnings start with seeing the world from the pet’s point of view. We are direct and insightful with the unique ability to connect with your pet on more than one level. We have two main goals: empower dog owners to take aligned action and foster curiosity for those who seek clarity and closure through pet readings.

Binge these 5 psychological facts to better understand your best friend:
Dogs have dreams - It is believed that dreaming has the same function in dogs as it does in humans: they’re processing what they had experienced during the day.
Dogs have the intelligence of a 2-year-old toddler. As a result, they are able to recognize between 150 and 250 words. (I’m sure “who’s a good boy” ranks at the top of the list!)
Your dog’s tail says a lot and a wagging tail doesn’t always mean they’re happy. So watch closely to learn their cues!
Although they receive information via energy and body language; they explore their surroundings through nose, eyes, THEN ears!
Dogs don’t just see in black and white - they can see blue/violet and green/yellow ranges.
Buckle up, you’re about to get certified in the life of Amanda
Dogs have been a constant in my life. And I don’t just mean in the “oh sure, we had dogs growing up” sense - I mean I’ve been studying them for as long as I can remember. We’re talkin’ encyclopedias of dog breeds lining my bookshelf and endlessly studying and observing their characteristics…simply because I loved it.
I binged training and behaviour books and subscribed to the Dog Fancy magazine every month. Shamelessly picking up the Dogs in Canada Annual every year was probably my favourite thing ever. (I even taught my beagle, Sounder, over 25 commands when I was 14….How was this possible, you ask? He loved food and I didn’t have a boyfriend.)
Naturally, I did what every dumb kid does nearing the end of high school, and pushed all that passion to the side for a part time job that turned into full time job working for a local oil and gas company. This is the stage of my life where I realized I wasn’t happy, so I quit and moved to Edmonton for 3 months and became a certified dog groomer.
That lasted 4 years on and off - I loved the dogs but didn’t love the job - and you guessed it: I quit that too. You see, I was checking off all of “life’s boxes”: completed high school, had a vehicle, went to post-secondary school, bought a house, got married (my husband didn’t know me at 14 and I’m sure that’s the main reason why we’re married…), had two girls, and my day to day was spent “momming around.”
I started feeling a little….”is this it?” Am I “just” a mom, now? But for me, parenting isn’t a job, it’s a relationship. So a purpose was missing for me.
At the end of 2018 I read Light is the New Black and it was life changing for me. Gave me the motivation to figure out my purpose, and wouldn’t you know it, my passion never went anywhere. I just stopped giving it my attention.
Now, I’m thrilled to report that I’m back to my roots and what I love most: Dogs.
our values
Gain insight from them AS Often as possible
Whether our work is in person training or virtual pet readings, the goal is for you to gain radical and real insight into their condition on all levels so you can operate from an informed and enlightened space
Seek to understand their behaviors
The more we can understand our pets, the sooner we can start seeing the world from their point of view - and a change in perspective is always possible.
Always hear their perspective
It’s time to pause, be aware, and take a look at what is happening for your pet. Our goal is always to help you hear their perspective on their current situation first.
If I’m not helping you bond with your pet, you’ll find me:
Accidentally leaving my grocery list at home
Enjoying coffee and reading a good book
Telling my husband and kids terrible jokes
Binging The Real Housewives
Letting my houseplants die a slow death
Telling my dogs how perfect they are
